As the "milk and bread of the information society", liquid crystal panels are widely used in the fields of smart phones, smart TVs, and tablet computers in modern society. In the past, despite the huge domestic demand, China's LCD panel market was mainly occupied by foreign capital, and since last year, the situation has quietly changed.
Electronic industry analysts pointed out: In recent years, China has witnessed a boom in LCD panel investment. In order to protect and develop the domestic LCD panel industry, the state has also continuously adjusted the import tax rate, and in January this year issued a fine for six monopoly foreign companies. The development environment of the domestic LCD panel industry is getting better and better, and it is expected to occupy a place in the national LCD panel market.
In the past few years, China's LCD panels have almost completely relied on imports from South Korea, Japan and Taiwan. Even in 2012, imports still reached US$50.3 billion, second only to integrated circuits, oil and iron ore. Due to the monopolistic advantage, foreign companies abused the dominant position of the market to charge high prices, making Chinese electronics manufacturing enterprises "dare to anger".
However, in recent years, there has been a boom in investment in LCD panels in mainland China. The current total investment scale (including completion, construction and planning) has exceeded 300 billion yuan. In order to protect and develop the domestic LCD panel industry, since April 1, 2012, the tax rate for imported 32-inch and above LCD panels has been adjusted from 3% to 5%, which will inhibit imports and support domestic LCD panel companies. For the phenomenon that foreign LCD panel manufacturers manipulate market prices in mainland China, the National Development and Reform Commission issued a fine for six international companies including Samsung, LG, Taiwan, Chi Mei, AUO, CPT, and HannStar. The large-scale LCD panel enterprises imposed penalties on price monopoly behavior from 2001 to 2006. According to the law, the enterprises involved in the case were ordered to refund the domestic color TV enterprises an overpayment of 172 million yuan, confiscation of 36.75 million yuan and a fine of 144 million yuan. Further purification of the market environment, but also conducive to the development of domestic LCD panel manufacturers.
At present, color TV manufacturing, mobile phone manufacturing, and PC manufacturing are the three largest LCD panel consumption industries. In the case that the actual self-sufficiency rate of domestic LCD panels is less than one-third, the domestic LCD panel industry has a broad development space. With the continuous release of production capacity, mainland China has become the world's third largest LCD panel production base. Last year, it accounted for 9.9% of the global market share and is expected to rise to 13.2% in 2013.
According to the “2013-2017 China LCD Panel Market Analysis and Investment Value Research Report” released by Shangpu Consulting, although the domestic LCD panel industry has ushered in a good time for development, it is also facing challenges. At present, the global economy is shrinking, and the demand for LCD panels in the international market cannot be sustained. Compared with Japan and South Korea, China's LCD panel manufacturers still need to improve their technology research and development, cost competition and profitability. The domestic LCD panel industry can seize the rare opportunity, vigorously develop technology and increase added value, in order to be invincible in the future competition.
